Interview with DARK DESOLATION

We spoke to the Bangalore based black metal band, DARK DESOLATION on their upcoming tribute compilation for one of the most extreme black metal bands MARDUK from Sweden

Greetings from MetalIndia team, how are you guys doing? Excited for the Tribute to Marduk album? How did you guys come up with the idea of compilation album?

Hey guys! We’re doing great! I’m afraid this is not a Marduk tribute album. We are in the state of euphoria for the Marduk Tribute. The idea came up as we wanted to put our new gear to test and in the meanwhile we were desperate to provide a tribute to the world’s most potent Black Metal band Marduk and incepted it.

Can you please tell us something about your journey and influences from your last year’s demo Blasphemous Pestilence till now ?

The journey has been interesting and we’re looking forward to make this a one of a kind release from an Indian band. Musically, the list is endless and we don’t believe in entertaining our influences in making music. We believe in executing our own ideas all together which in the end output is Dark Desolation

Marduk is known to be one of the most extreme bands in the world, what do you think is the most difficult part in creating a tribute album for such a band?

Definitely without any doubt they are one of the most extreme bands on the planet and creating a tribute for them is too sodomizing tough and pressurizing. We gave it our best shot and did it in our style.

You will be joining forces with other metal bands as well for the tribute album, can you tell us a little about the other bands and their styles?

There are 4 bands from Abroad who would do guest appearance on the tribute. To start off with Acid Death, one of the oldest Greek bands that have been active for 12 years, from 1989 to 2001. They have got a long list of releases like EP, a split LP, two full length CDs and countless live appearances. They played along with bands such as KREATOR, THE HAUNTED, IMPALED NAZARENE, CHILDREN OF BODOM, MAYHEM, ROTTING CHRIST to name a few.

Stortregn is a black/death metal band formed in Switzerland in 2005. Very appreciated for their live shows, Stortregn has become an inevitable band in the world of Swiss French’s black/death metal. They have shared the stage with famous artists as Samael, Prostitute Disfigurment, Dew Scented, CorScorpii, Forgotten Tomb, Farsot, Infernal War, Christ Agony, Unlight, Eluveitie, Otargos, Svart Crown, Furia, Absurdity, the CNK. They have released a second album Evocation Of Light and it will blow you off!

AfterBlood is a female fronted Metal band with a modern Death Metal style that meets the Heavy Metal sound adding atmospheric Black metal touches. They are about to release their debut album produced by WaldemarSorychta (Grip Inc., Enemy of the Sun) and AfterBlood, mixed and mastered by WaldemarSorychta and sound engineer Dennis Koehne (Lacuna Coil, Moonspell, Tiamat, Samael, etc.), with session drummer Markus “Makka” Freiwald (Sodom) and guest vocal appearances by the legendary Tom Angelripper (Sodom) and Antony Hämäläinen (Nightrage) and with this you definitely know whats in store.

OSBM band from Croatia,Winterfront started as project of two fiends Terrt and Sorr in late autumn of 2010, In late winter and spring of 2011 we recorded EP “Of iron and blood” with more aggressive sound, and latter in summer single and continued with four members. In summer of 2012 they recorded LP “Northwinds” with all old songs, and one new. Northwinds 2013 album from them is a masterpiece for all Pagan Black Metal fans!

Can you brief us about the production for the tribute album?

Production will be taken care by Vinish from Derash Studios, Auckland. The scratch tracks have however been recorded at Marshalz studio, Bangalore by our bass guitarist/sound engineer Jayant

Can you tell us about the songs / tracklist for the new album?

Here are few tracks to be found on our 1st full length.

Apostatical Misanthropy, Odium Apoptosis, Bellicose Matricide, Patricidal Libido to name a few

How do you plan to promote the album and do you have any plans to tour for their releases?

An aggressive promotion for the album is on the cards and yes if time persists hopefully, definitely a tour will be announced

How much time do you hope this album will take for completion?

At the moment we don’t see a specific date but it should take a little while as we’ve started working on March 2013 and things are moving pretty fast now.

Dark Desolation was also picked up for a compilation album by Metal Hammer alongside Sepultura,Trivium, and Decapitated, can you share the experience with that compilation and how different do you expect this release to be?

Featuring on Metal Hammer was fuckin incredible and we are proud about it to be the first band on Metal Hammer. This release will be a completely different one from all aspects. This crud release is a pure, unadulterated Black Metal tribute featuring different bands across the globe and will partially quench our Mardukthrist.

What are the other influences of Dark Desolation (Musical and non-musical)?

Musical: Besatt, Marduk, Urgehal, Negator to name a few

Non Musical: Beer

What do you think sets you apart from other black metal bands in India?

Black metal is known to be very notorious due to the anti-religious sentiments and we have a diverse community for religious followers. What do you think is the scene for black metal bands in India? How do you plan to take it forward?
