Interview with Third Sovereign

Third sovereign from Mizoram graced selective north India festivals, this is what answered to what we asked-

Third sovereign sounds like an unusual name, tell us what does it signify?
It is inspired by D.C comics, actually 3 of us started playing together and at that time we were three piece. Even after mala’s entry we stuck to third sovereign.

Seems you guys are on a north-india tour, where all did you play?
We played at IIT-D, BIpilani and Delhi College of Engg fest.

What kind of response did you generate?
Response has been amazing, didn’t like Pilani though,as we didn’t get to the finals. At DCE it was great we won the best band and the best drummer category.

Do you find any difference in the metal crowd in the north and back home in Mizoram?
Yes, there are not many headbangers back home, people quietly sit and watch.
It is far better here as people move to the music in north India.

What are your influences?
Death, Napalm death,Carcass,Sadus and old Sepultura.

Are your originals a reflection of your influences?
The originals mostly come from the drummer; we do try to pick up our own sound as much possible. Yes, influences play a big role as well.

What percentage of your setlist do covers dominate?
Right now its eighty percent, since we been around for three months only. But after a while, the compositions of the setlist will be different.

What are your thoughts about the Indian metal scene? Are there any Indian bands that you have been influenced by?
The scene is going up for sure, events like deathfest are catching attention, bands are geeting serious. Millenium is one band respect. We would love to perform with Myndsnare and Cremated Souls. We think these are fantastic bands. We respect seniors like Dreamhunter, Adremelech(Shilong) and for that matter Parikrama.

Final words for all keen followers of metal in India? And followers of your music?
Indian metal scene is going strong, we want the scene to grow and we wish everyone all the best. Thanks for the support to all the people at our gigs.

Any messages for all fellow Indian bands?
Keep metalling, without drugs!
