Dying Fetus – Descend Into Depravity

For John Gallagher & boys ‘Stop at nothing’ was the aptest album title for the masterpiece release & was a statement about of what was coming. They followed up throwing napalm waging a’ War of attrition’.  Year 2009!.’Descend into depravity’ bombards modern death metal with its punk, mean, sick, rapid, whipping!.and annihilative composition. Spin track 1 ‘Your treachery will die with you’ and you wonder how can a band come up with such a refreshed aggression right after 2 back to back mammoth releases.

This album’s music showcases John’s genius who after losing out Kevin Tailey, Sparky Voyles & Jason Netherton (now known as Misery Index) expands spunk, flair, technicality, progression & aggression quotient on each subsequent release. ‘Your treachery shall die with you’ the album opener displays riffs faster/chugging & heavier when compared with any DF release. The initial riffs slice the ear buds at several Macs and a minute & a half in the song a snaky lead runs over the mid bass. All structures get erected & wiped out to make way for new ones. Riffing patterns are intimidating yet at the same time so well meshed that the by-product is rich to the core. All this delivered with superfluous John’s growls/grunts, makes it a package worth every penny. Track 2 ‘Shepherd’s commandment’ starts on a slower groovier note that has all elements to swing your neck away, change of gear & the band puts into the overdrive & the whole atmosphere changes to a havoc, groove parts again barricade the drill riff parts that just drive deep into your head. The musical axis tilts so swiftly between both worlds giving you a million head spins in a span of 3 mins.

‘Hopeless insurrection’ sprints the way as if there’s no tomorrow, drum rolls in the mid section hurdle the way & triplets/double base pave way for recharging the circuit. Last frame of the song is a like stuck flush pot where it recedes slowly yet gradually. Midway track 4 ‘Conceived into enslavement’ starts off with leads having a zigzag’s downhill climb and groove slam parts which have the potential to cage any death metal fan. It’s reverberating, chaos-filled and splashes till the end. It’s amazing to see how drummer Trey Williams pounces over the riffs whenever required & then goes back gently to original position & then does it again on the riff command. ‘Atrocious by nature’ plagues the ears with mournful grunts poisoned over & over with rapid action riffs, this is the best catch when it comes to snare speed aspect. Title track ‘Descend into depravity’ victimizes with its decayed groove grids& demeaning painful lyrics. This track is a perfect balance of whatever your hear on the complete album, a combination of whatever DF offers, read on!

Track 7 ‘At what expense?’ best exposes how US has been doing injustice to the weak & deprived .Lyrics like ‘You have assurance-The enemy is harmless, they are trustworthy-despite their wickedness’ eases the discharge of hatred. One of the lengthier songs amongst all, it has a unique mix of conventional suffocation/skinless kind lethal riffs with seasonal DF head moving tone.

Final track ‘Ethos of coercion’ is the last nail in the coffin it’s dark, it’s colossal and triggers mass destruction through its big riffs, wicked leads & contaminated dusty vocal delivery.
Judgment, crime no 1 you haven’t heard Dying Fetus, crime 2 you have, but you don’t possess their albums, crime 3 you haven’t heard the previous 2 master crafts!and biggest crime is!.You are still reading this review to decide whether you should pick ‘Descend into depravity’.(10/10)
