What can be said about them what hasn’t been said till now. One of the foremost band in the death metal genre, Morbid Angel has been continuously evolving the genre with their consistent and ever evolving music. The death metal masters from Florida have once again proved their dominance in the genre with the release of their latest release ‘Gateways to Annihilation’. The album kicks off with a 30 second dark, gloomy intro ‘Kawazu’ which sets the dark atmosphere for the rest of the album. Following the intro is an earth shattering track ‘Summoning Redemption’ and then ‘Ageless, Still I Am’. The albums displays the technical prowess of the band. The intense double bass drumming by Pete Sandoval has seen more aggression and new found sense of melody that Trey Azagthoth has developed in his guitar technique. The band has been evolving their music from ‘Covenant’ days to the ‘Formulas…’ days to ‘Gateways..’ . The vocals have become more clear as well as aggressive combined with the low-end guitar riffs and melodic solos belted out by Trey. The dark, throaty vocals are also evident throughout the album with Steve Tucker changing from harsh levels to more subtle levels. These factors are evident from the tracks like ‘Secured Limitations’ and ‘I’ which show this new side of the Morbid Angel saga. The band hasn’t lost the song writing lustre like before and also have made the album enjoyable and listenable. Overall, a must for all deathmetal fans.
