Devin Townsend does all writing and composing.Alongside him on this album is Drum Demon Gene Holgan. He has Jed and Byron on Guitar and Bass. Devin also sung on Steve Vais album Sex and Religion.This is an intense album not meant for the weak hearted.The album kicks of with Velvet Kevorkian which is kind of a message/intro than a song and then it breaks out into All Hail The New Flesh which gives you a head Rush.The best thing about SYL is the mix of aggression and Melody.Devin doesn’t growl at all but he signs with so much force and emotion is sounds so aggressive.Songs like "Oh My Fucking God and Home Nucleonics" are at speed limits unimaginable and still they sound like music and Devin’s vocals are incredibly fast and good. Detox is the song that takes the cake but amazing riffs,killer drums and awesome vocals. Underneath The Waves makes you wanna jump into a mosh pit or break something.The vocals on this song are amazingly intense.The album slows down at the end with 2 slow but yet heavy songs Room 429 and Sprituality which show Devins ability as a singer.These songs send you into a trance.In a time where there are hardly any good bands worth dying for SYL are worth killing for.
