Depresy – A Grand Magnificence

Depresy - A Grand Magnificence From the cold, dark forests of Slovakia, comes a grand and magnificent album from Slovakian Melodic Death Metal band, Depresy. The album is the band’s second release . Following their debut album ‘Sighting’, this album has 12 tracks of which tracks 5-12 are re-recorded from their demo ‘And There Came The Tears With Christ’. The album actually has only 2 new original tracks plus a cover of Hypocrisy, ‘An Elder’s Spirit Reincarnation’ and one of their old song ‘Try Not To Breathe’ which was also included in the compilation ‘Death Metal Made In Slovakia’. The album starts with ‘Unpure Romanticism I: The Alchemy Of Eternity’ which is a fast paced, melodic track which heavy guitar work and guttural vocals. The track has some amazing tempo shifts and heavy yet melodic guitar solos. The next track ‘Unpure Romanticism II: Drama ‘ has a very eerie and atmospheric feel to it. This track also like the first one is of a long duration and has some great tempo shifts, tight bass lines, heavy usage of keyboards incorporated in it. The band maintains the fluidity in their songs so that the listener doesn’t loose interest in their music. The album has been done with amazing clarity and after listening to their demo tracks, one can feel that the band has definitely progressed musically . Tracks like ‘Magic of Eternal Dreaming’ and ‘Kisses Of Suffering’ show the melancholy and doomy side of the band which are now evident in their new tracks. Overall, a properly produced album which has all the elements to make it enjoyable and listenable.
