Devanic – Mask Installed

DEVANIC hail from Austria, and honestly I haven’t heard any bands from this country, probably ‘Openwound’is the only other band I can think off right now. However, no comparisons meant as the genre under which Devanic falls totally differs from the former. Melodic death metal is what they specialize in.

Clearly, their emergence re-establishes great taste and liking of European musicians for this genre. As for the fans they have realized the breed will keep growing! which is great in many ways, brcause each of these bands tend to push limits and try bringing out something of their own. DEVANIC is one such example; ‘mask installed’ (their album) is immensely rhythm friendly right from the word go and methodically melodic (even after lack of keyboard by the five piece). Andreas (V) uses an intermediate growling throat, to keep the groove in place. Twin-guitar variation is solid, played over standard thrashy drum sound, somehow which sounds very close to old Soilwork albums.

Lyrically, it’s attuned to society, life, critics and process of individualistic development, which is fair, but could have been more repulsive. Out of the eight tracks, ‘Dimensions’ (track6),’You will see’ (track1) and ‘Ignorance’ (track7), are my favorite picks, best remembered for speed, continuous harmonization, frantic leads and doomish singing touch- track6, aggression -track1 and hardcore effect -track7.

Overall, it’s alive and kicking, but at times gloomy! (7.5/10)
